WEST AFRICAN DRUM CAMP

Classes available for many ages. In the morning classes, students will have the opportunity to learn examples of traditional djembe accompaniments from West Africa, along with playing rhythm games and exploring improv drumming. The afternoon class will be an intensive learning experience as students will learn several full arrangements of traditional West African rhythms, using djembes as well as the sangban, kenkeni, and the dununba - the drums that provide the foundation for the rhythms. We will work on technique and memorization and explore solo techniques and improv skills. Each class will offer a showcase performance for friends and family at the end of the week.
